Meet
Nagpur,
5-6 February, 2006
The doctors
and medical
students of Maharashtra, India resolved to work to strengthen
the cause
of peace, health and development during the two days deliberations held
at Nagpur
on 05-06 February
2006. On 5th February in a seminar organised by the Indian Doctors for
Peace
and Development (IDPD) in collaboration with Medicovet Rural Welfare
Society
(MRWS), medicos decried the ongoing expenditure on the arms race in the
world
particularly in South Asia, which is
adversely
affecting the development and threatening the security of the people.
People
form all strata of society young and old women and men participated in
the
seminar. Vice chancellor of deemed university of Datta Meghe Medical
Sciences
Wardha, Sawangi, Dr.Ved Prakash Mishra, Ex Vice chancellor of Nagpur
university, Dr Arun Mitra ,Gen Secretary IDPD, Dr (Mrs.) Geeta Arvind

Executive Director of Mediocvet Rural Welfare Society Nagpur and
Associate
Professor in Department of Physiology, Government Medical College,
Nagpur Dr
Arvind Kurhade, Dr Prashant Agnihotri Leading Ophthalmologist of the

Nagpur addressed the audience. Ms. Aditi, a medical student from NDMVPS Medical
College, Nashik
presented a report
of activities of the student wing of
IDPD Maharashtra as a part of the campaign “Road to Awareness” in the
state of Maharashtra.
Students' activities
On 6th
February a medical
student seminar was held in the Government Medical College Nagpur.
Inaugurating
the seminar Dr.V.S.Dani – Principal of the college lauded the role of
IDPD in
promoting peace. Dr.R.G. Dhawle – Principal NDMVPS
Medical College, Nashik said that
his college would support all such activities for peace, health and
development. Dr Arun Mitra - General Secretary IDPD said that students
are the
future our nation and their energies have to be channalised for good
cause.
Referring to the hypocrisy and double standards of the US
administration, Dr.Ved Prakash
Mishra called upon the younger generation to prove the phrase “Might is
Right”
wrong and change it to “Right is Might”. Giving her presentation on
‘Health as
Bridge to Peace-Link and Relevance in Present Global Scenario’, Dr
Geeta
Kurhade said that violence is a chosen response to insecurity.
The student
activities
were organized in a vibrant but serious atmosphere in the form of
cultural
programme and painting competition.
Three dramas were presented by the students.
Students of
NDMVPS
Medical college Nashik led by Ms.Aditi Sood and Ms.Shikha Sood
presented 1120
signatures collected from different medical colleges on the pledge
against
nuclear arms race. A poster competition was organised. A painting by
Yogesh
Dongre won the First Prize and painting done collectively by Prajakta
Pandit,
Garima Dua, Ajay Mahajan, Akshay Nagrulkar Second Prize. All the
students were
given certificate of participation. Dr Arun Mitra – National General
Secretary
and the state IDPD leadership addressed a press conference.
During
the meeting, the local body of IDPD was announced which consisted of
students.
