IDPD Organizes Seminar in Chennai

Chennai, February 11, 2006

 

IDPD organized a seminar on “World Peace and People’s Health Problems” in Chennai on February 11, 2006. Dr. R. Senthil, Member of Parliament & IDPD’s Tamil Nadu State President, presided over the seminar.  Dr. K. Lakshmi Narayanan, State Treasurer of IDPD’s delivered the welcome address. IPPNW Former Vice President, Dr. Ian Maddocks, delivered the inaugural address. Dr. G.R. Ravindranath proposed resolutions. World Community Service Centre, Secretary, T.N.Arulanandham, Cardio Thoracic Surgeon Dr. P.Murthy, Dr. A. Seppan, & Dr. A.R. Shanthi delivered the keynote address.

 

“Nuclear Politics” a book authored by CPI’s Veteran Leader D. Gnanaiya was released in this seminar.  Madurai Meenakshi Mission Hospital Chairman, Dr. N. Sethuraman, released the first copy and it was received by Dr. V. Jeevanantham, President of Doctors’ Association for Social Equality. 

 

Mr. T.K. Rangarajan, Central Committee Member of CPI (M) delivered the concluding address.  At the end of the seminar IDPD resolved that it is highly regrettable and condemnable that India has voted against Iran due to the U.S. pressure in IAEA meeting.  India should not take anti Iran position in future.

 

Besides IDPD also said that US Ambassador to India Mr. David Mulford is intervening in the internal affairs of India, it is highly condemnable and he should be called back immediately by U.S. 

 

The following were the other parts of the resolutions:

 

All countries possessing Nuclear Weapons should eliminate all the nuclear weapons in a stipulated time frame work. 

World countries should allocate more funds for education and health.  Spending for weapons and arms should be brought down. 

Iran Nuclear Programme issue should be settled peacefully by political and diplomatic means.

Economical sanctions against Cuba should be withdrawn immediately by U.S.

France warship Clemenceau containing toxic wastes like asbestos and lead should not be allowed into Alang ship breaking yard in Gujarat.

India should not sign the Indo-US Nuclear Deal which will be against of our national interest.
