This year, we are planning to expand our Target X program across the globe; PSRN Student’s Chapter, Nepal observed Nuclear Abolition Day on 25th of June 2011 at Maharajgunj Medical College, Kathmandu. 25 students participated in the program where following actions were conducted expressing solidarity to the campaign of i can.

Target -X Programme
:
First, a “X” target was formed. After the participants and onlookers were curious about the “X”, it was explained that the “X” was indicative of any spot on the planet, any city or locality where the nuclear weapons might hit. Then among the participants speakers stood on the “X” and they explained the dangers of nuclear weapons and also expressed concerns over the ongoing nuclear proliferations globally and in the region.

Facebook Campaign:

Profile pictures in the Facebook were changed to the picture of a person holding the sign reading “Abolish Nuclear Weapons” and messages were circulated expressing concerns over the nuclear proliferation. Voices were raised reproving the use of nuclear power for energy as well.

These days we are all confronted with images of death and destruction, with fears of widespread radioactive fallout and with personal stories by the people suffering from the horrible catastrophes in Northeast Japan. There a few people who can make sense of all of these impressions. As doctors, we do not know much more about what is exactly happening in the smoldering reactors of Fukushima right now. But what we do know a lot about are the medical effects of nuclear meltdowns. We've studied the health effects of the Chernobyl disaster for 25 years and know what we're talking about.

Click here to see video personal statements by physicians from all over the world about Fukushima and nuclear energy!
